The programs below are funded by MLAC and offer legal advice and representation to low-income Massachusetts residents with civil legal problems involving issues such as domestic violence, housing, income maintenance, health care, elder issues, and more.

With limited exceptions, clients must be elderly or have income below 125 percent of the federal poverty line to qualify for MLAC-funded assistance (view the 2009 poverty guidelines). By law, MLAC distributes funds to local civil legal aid programs in proportion to the number of income-eligible people living in each region.

In accepting MLAC funds, programs agree to comply with performance standards that MLAC adopted in May 2006 to help ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality legal services to clients throughout the Commonwealth (view the list of standards).
