Leadership & Staff

The Equal Justice Coalition is managed by its Legislative Committee, comprised of representatives from the Massachusetts Bar Association, the Boston Bar Association, attorneys in private practice and legal aid programs. The Private Bar Advisory Committee works specifically to increase support for the Equal Justice Coalition’s objectives in and among the private bar in Massachusetts.

Sandy Moskowitz was appointed to a two-year term as chair of the Equal Justice Coalition on July 1, 2010. He previously served as co-chair of the Private Bar Advisory Committee. Throughout his career, starting as an attorney for Birmingham Area Legal Services, Sandy has been dedicated to supporting civil legal aid. He established and operated the Lawyer for a Day Program at the Boston Housing Court, and in 2006, Sandy was awarded the Adams Pro Bono Publico Award by the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court for his work with the program. He is an appointed member of the Boston Bar Association’s Public Service Committee and a former elected member of the Boston Bar Association Council. He is also a member of the board of directors of Greater Boston Legal Services.

Juan Concepcion was appointed to a two-year term as co-chair of the Private Bar Advisory Committee on July 1, 2010. He has served as captain of Nixon’s Walk to the Hill team for the past eight years. Since joining Nixon in 2003, he has been very active in pro bono activities—having earned the distinguished William Rodman Peabody Award three times, Nixon Peabody’s award for excellence in service to the community.

Tony Doniger was appointed to a two-year term as co-chair of the Private Bar Advisory Committee on July 1, 2010. Throughout his distinguished legal career, he has remained committed to supporting civil legal aid. He is a member of the Boston Bar Foundation’s Board of Trustees and the Massachusetts Access to Justice Commission. He formerly served as president of the Boston Bar Association and chair of the Massachusetts IOLTA Committee.


Staff

Pattye Comfort, Director, Equal Justice Coalition

Pattye joined the Massachusetts Legal Assistance Corporation as director of the Equal Justice Coalition in 2002. She is responsible for coordinating the state-wide advocacy on behalf of legislative funding for civil legal aid. Before joining MLAC, Pattye spent nine years as an assistant counsel to the National Association of State Public Interest Research Groups (PIRGs). Prior to law school, she worked as a community organizer with public housing tenants in Boston and Lowell; as assistant director of Save the Harbor, Save the Bay in Boston; and as an anti-nuclear weapons lobbyist in Washington, DC.
