The Equal Justice Coalition honored six Massachusetts legislators with the Beacon of Justice award for their outstanding commitment to civil legal aid in 2009. The event was held on November 17 at WilmerHale. The awards were presented by former legal aid clients and community representatives from the legislators' districts. Hon. John M. Greaney, retired associate justice of the Supreme Judicial Court, served as the master of ceremonies.
The honorees were: House Speaker Robert A. DeLeo (D-Winthrop), Rep. Charles A. Murphy (D-Burlington), Rep. Eugene L. O’Flaherty (D-Chelsea), Sen. Steven C. Panagiotakos (D-Lowell), Sen. Cynthia Stone Creem (D-Newton), and Sen. Patricia D. Jehlen (D-Somerville).

2009 Luncheon
The Walk to the Hill Captains Lunch took place on December 8 at Choate Hall & Stewart. The following captains were recognized with “Best Attendance” awards for their firms’ participation in Walk to the Hill 2009:
- 1st place: Jeffrey Gleason and Jonathan Thessin of WilmerHale (75 attorneys particpated)
- 2nd place: Kathy Falkenstrom of Ropes & Gray (56 attorneys participated)
- 3rd place: Jim DiTullio and Brian Barry of Choate Hall & Stewart (55 attorneys participated)
- Best Percentage: Jim Re of Sally & Fitch (68% of the firm’s attorneys participated).
